Villarreal coach Setien accepts Rayo deserved victory

Villarreal coach Quique Setien was left frustrated after defeat to Rayo Vallecano on Monday night.

In the 70th minute, Rayo Vallecano took the lead with their first shot on target of the match. Sergio Camello took advantage of a ball into space to beat Filip Jorgensen, who did not gauge coming off his line well. After the goal, the Yellows were unable to find a reaction.

Setien said, “They adjusted their press in the second half and it was difficult for us to come out from the back. We found it very difficult and we didn't have the finesse we needed to overcome that line of pressure. In the first half we should have taken some of the chances we had. It's more to Rayo's credit than ours, as they played a great second half

“Our opponents closed down us playing out from the back and pressed high. They closed down Parejo and we couldn't manage to do what we have done on other occasions."

He added, “We were on a very good run. We lost against a great team. It's true that the sensations of the second half are good. I'm satisfied with the first half we played and, with a bit more luck, we would have scored a goal that would have changed the whole game."
