Aston Villa striker Emile Heskey's snub could boost Ashley Young's prospects of being used for England in the second striker's role he has revelled in at Villa this season.
England coach Fabio Capello also suggested that Stewart Downing could be recalled for the Montenegro qualifier after starting the season in impressive form.
Asked about Young's new role, Capello said: "We have Darren Bent, Peter Crouch and we have to decide the position of Ashley Young.
And he added: "Downing is coming back."
