Villa striker Carew delighted to get back on scoresheet

Aston Villa striker John Carew was delighted with his goal in their 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough.

He told AVTV: "It was a fantastic feeling to score again - it was a good goal - and I was pleased to do it in front of our fans.

"I tried to keep calm and make sure I didn't snatch at it too early. I wanted to get it under control first and I managed to do that and it went in. It was certainly a good feeling.

"The fans have been fantastic this season. Their support at The Riverside was amazing. I could tell by the costumes and the noise that they were loving every minute of it.

"We have done really well away from home this season. That has been very encouraging. We want to keep that going next season - with more wins at Villa Park thrown in too.

"It would be tremendous to win the last game of the season in front of our own fans at Villa Park. We lost to Wigan in the final home game last season so we want to put that right this time around. That will be for the fans.

"Newcastle are really struggling and fighting to stay up - just like Middlesbrough. It certainly makes for a very interesting game."
