New Aston Villa fullback Nicky Shorey is confident of establishing a good relationship with manager Martin O'Neill.

The England international said: "He seemed like a friendly and honest man, which I'm used to with Steve Coppell. He's similar to him and that's great for me. He's come across well and that's a big, big factor in why I signed as well.

"I'm getting to that age where it was a case of now or never for me really. I'm just looking forward to that chance to progress and training with the players at this club will help me do that."
