Aston Villa are set to record their highest average attendance for more than half a century.

With two home games remaining, Villa have an average attendance for home league matches this season of 40,019.

The match against Birmingham is already sold out and the club report that tickets are selling well for their final home game against Wigan on 3 May.

If that match also sells out, Villa will average 40,375 for the season - the highest since 1948-9.
