Aston Villa are ready to back Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp after he was targeted by ugly fans in Villa's family section on Saturday.

A Villa spokesman said: "If Harry Redknapp or Portsmouth make a complaint then we will investigate.

"This does not reflect the general behaviour of our supporters, who have a good reputation."

Villa boss Martin O'Neill said: "All managers support Harry, what with everything that's happened to him.

"Everyone expects banter and no one will ever be able to prevent it.

"But if there have been chants from the children's area with bad language then that shouldn't be tolerated."
