Aston Villa legend Trevor Morley has hailed the England contenders in Martin O'Neill's squad - including Stewart Downing.

While many are talking up the chances of James Milner, Ashley Young, Emile Heskey, Gabby Agbonlahor and Stephen Warnock, our former wing wizard thinks Downing has as good a chance as anyone of getting on that plane for South Africa.

He told AVTV: "People forget that we've got Stewart to come back.

"When you look at the Villa squad with regard to England, we're got Stephen, Stewart, Ashley, Gabby, James and Emile.

"And if you look at it even closer, you realise we could possibly have three of England's wingers in our ranks - Stewart, Ashley and James. That's not bad is it?

"It makes me wish I was 30 years younger. It's great for the club.

"I love players with flair and I love watching the ones who want to entertain the crowd. That's what my game was about. It's so good for the club.

"The English core is great and it's something Martin likes. I can only see good times ahead for Villa."
