Aston Villa fullback Alan Hutton feels Carles Gil can build on his debut in defeat to Liverpool.

Gil showed flashes of ingenuity during his 31 minute cameo after being handed a Villa debut from the substitutes bench in the 2-0 Villa Park defeat to Liverpool.

"He's only played half an hour but he's showed that technically he is very gifted and he can see that final pass that maybe we have been missing - so I think he's going to be great for us," said Hutton.

"It's difficult coming in and not really speaking much of the language. Only being here training for a couple of days, it would have been tough for him I think.

"But to come on with half an hour to go and show everyone what he is capable of is only going to be good for us going forward."
