Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood says Premier League managers aren't to blame for local talent being held back.
Sherwood is already well known for bringing through young talent.
Sherwood told the London Evening Standard: "Generally, though, when you look across the Premier League, English players are not given a fair crack of the whip. The managers are more comfortable with paying millions of pounds for a player with a reputation overseas.
"I don't blame the managers. They have their heads on the block and usually don't have long in charge. But unless you're looking closely at your academy and you know what is coming through, it's hard to draw the conclusion that your own products are inferior to the players you might sign."
