Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill says Tony Adams is capable of making a success of the Portsmouth job.
He said: "Harry Redknapp did brilliantly for the club culminating in winning the FA Cup, a fantastic achievement. He got the club going.
"They have lost a couple of players and there is a lot of pressure in the Premier League now because of the money. There is an intense pressure that doesn't seem to alleviate itself any particular week.
"We are in the business of trying to win and, if you don't win, you will be in a heap of trouble.
"But Tony is not exactly new to management and I think he can cope absolutely fine with everything that is going to be thrown at him. I don't see that being a problem.
"He was a fantastic player. I know the two things don't necessarily marry up but he has got plenty of experience and he has worked with someone (Redknapp) who had great experience so he has got all of those things behind him."
