Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert says the impact of American goalkeeper Brad Guzan this season has been "colossal".

The Scot's decision to axe Shay Given after just two matches this season is one that has been fully vindicated.

"He's been colossal," said Lambert.

"Shay deserves credit for how hard he has pushed. But Brad's made some massive saves for us at big moments.

"Would I swap him? Not at all. He's a good guy. A top character. He's always bubbly which is important for the team."
