Aston Villa boss Gerard Houllier is delighted with impact made by Jean II Makoun.
The Cameroon midfielder saw red in the draw at Blackpool.
But Houllier has urged him to look at the positives from his performances thus far.
"Jean is upset because he felt he let the team down," Houllier told Villa's website.
"He is learning and he was doing well. The only goal we scored came from him winning the ball then passing to Nigel - it was great movement of the football.
"He was very useful in midfield because he is a link between the defence and the attack.
"I don't think it was a malicious tackle, it was just a reckless tackle."
