Villa boss Houllier confident fans will roar them to safety

Aston Villa boss Gerard Houllier is confident the club's huge support won't abandon them in their battle against the drop.

Houllier knows the club's raucous following will roar the lads on in each of the remaining matches and stressed his unwavering belief that his star names will show that passion and pride required to succeed.

He told AVTV: "This is a massive, massive club with a terrific tradition. The history is truly tremendous and it means a lot to be manager here. It comes with a big responsibility to build your own story.

"I am totally immersed in the job. You need to know that. Here at the moment we are battling adversity and we have to confront that totally head on. I take this as a challenge.

"We would have wished for a more positive objective but, let's face it, these eight games are very important for the end of the season and our future. The challenge after that is to create our own history.

"But for now we stay humble and our ambition is to succeed in our league of eight games. We want to get out of the danger zone as soon as possible. We know what we want and what we need. All the players are aware of that.

"We know we have eight battles, eight fights, eight wars to get the points we need. It's about passion, desire, togetherness and a will to surpass oneself and give more to the club and to the fans. I would say unity too. All these words are relevant in these circumstances.

"The mood is positive. That's important. You can only win if you are positive about what you are doing. You can't spend your time reflecting on what's happened. We now have eight games ahead of us.

"It's our league and these games are vital for our future. We know that. We know where we stand and what we have to do.

"I totally and fully share the fan frustration and disappointment. Now their influence is so important for us in this period of the season.

"Their support is fantastic and they can be our 12th man for every game now until the end of the season. We can play with an extra man with them rallying us on."
