Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish has warned midfielder Barry Bannan he risks messing up his career.
Bannan awaits trial on a string of motoring offences, including driving with excess alcohol and driving without a licence.
McLeish said: "Nobody's going to be too upset if a player has a glass of beer - but at the right time.
"In the Premier League you have to be absolutely right physically. He has the potential to become a regular for Aston Villa and Scotland and he's available for selection against Spurs on Monday.
"I'm sure lessons have been learned. He's training really hard and scored a goal for the reserves during the week.
"He's knuckled down and I'm sure being left out by Scotland hurt. But life's a big challenge and it's how you deal with the next episode that counts."
