Villa attempt to rush through Makoun work permit

Aston Villa hope to get a work permit for new signing Jean Makoun.

The Sunday Mirror says Villa will try to fast-track a work permit for Makoun after the Cameroon international agreed a £5million move from Lyon yesterday.

The 27-year-old, who cost Lyon £11m in 2008, could wait until February to make his Premier League debut if the Villa can't cut short the two-week application process.

Makoun, capped 54 times and with Champions League experience in France, should have no trouble meeting the requirements but boss Gerard Houllier wants him for next week's home game with Manchester City and the trip to Wigan three days later.
