Vietnam Television (VTV) has announced its acquisition of local broadcast rights to Euro 2012, reports SportsPro. Under terms of the agreement VTV will broadcast all 31 matches across its various television channels.
Though four years ago the television rights to Euro 2008 were sold in Vietnam for US$2 million, Uefa's sports marketing partner Sportfive was reportedly seeking US$5 million for the 2012 edition of the international soccer tournament, this year taking place in Poland and Ukraine.
"We will organise a lot of sideline programmes to attract advertisers to cover part of the expense." "Purchasing TV rights for big tournaments - like Euro, World Cup and even ASEAN Football Federation - is not easy. We're currently spending more on Euro broadcasting rights than we did for previous tournaments," said Phan Ngoc Tien, deputy head of VTV3.
Euro 2012 gets underway on 8th June and will run until 1st July.
