Victorious van Gaal targets Premier League glory with Man Utd

Louis van Gaal has his sights set on the Premier League title after guiding Manchester United to their first victory of the season on Sunday.

The new-look Red Devils hammered QPR 4-0 at Old Trafford to open their account for the 2014/15 campaign and it was a performance that had van Gaal in high spirits at the after match press conference.

"I want to win the Premier League title," the Dutchman said.

"If it is not this year then the second or third year. I want to give a championship to the fans."

After three league matches without a win and a shock loss to MK Dons in the second round of the Capital One Cup, van Gaal demanded an improvement from his players and was delighted that they were able to come through with the goods.

"The result is fantastic, but I think we can do much better," van Gaal added.

"I said (before the match): 'let's make a new start today'.

"I have made now the (squad) selection of 27 players - three goalkeepers and 24 players, you shall see it Tuesday with the photoshoot, that is our squad."

£59.7million signing Angel Di Maria opened the scoring for United with a free-kick in the 24th minute which managed to evade R's keeper Robert Green before having a hand in fellow summer recruit Ander Herrera's first goal for the club 12 minutes later.

Herrera then played in Wayne Rooney, who had fed him earlier, allowing the England captain to drive low past Green which saw him move to equal third place on the Premier League scoring charts on 175 goals with Thierry Henry.

The Red Devils completed the four-goal rout just before the hour-mark when Juan Mata controlled a sublime cross from Di Maria before finishing emphatically from just outside the six-yard box to send United up to ninth on the league table.
