Hellas Verona coach Marco Baroni hailed his players after their 2-1 defeat of Roma.
Ondrej Duda and Cyril Ngonge struck for Verona, with Houssem Aouar on the scoresheet for Roma. Verona could also afford the dismissal of Isak Hein as they held on.
Baroni said: "I have a squad that put itself entirely at my disposal.
“We had problems in pre-season, as there weren't many midfielders available and the team is still lacking a few roles. In any case, I wanted our fans to see a side that would never give up and I congratulate the lads."
He also said: “This was a team that needed to be dismantled and built up again from scratch. The most important thing for me is the attitude of the players, that we need to run forward and be aggressive. I want this side to develop a clear identity.
“There is a lot to be improved and we need to keep our feet on the ground, there's a long road ahead of us."
