Verheijen: Why Big Sam not right coach for England - just look at Moyes!

Former Manchester City and Wales fitness coach Raymond Verheijen is unimpressed by Sam Allardyce's appointment as new England coach.

Allardyce has left his job at Sunderland to take charge of England.

Verheijen is quoted by Voetbalzone: "Managers of underdog teams often find it difficult in a top team. Those top players work one time at their club with Jose Mourinho and Josep Guardiola and the next moment with Allardyce.

"A coach of an underdog is mainly concerned with putting down a good defence and building a wall.

"As a top coach, the focus should just be on breaking down that wall. Only the best coaches are able to do so.

"David Moyes is a perfect example. He is able to help clubs like Everton and Sunderland to raise themselves, but Manchester United was just a bit too big for him."
