Brett Holman has revealed that former Australia coach Pim Verbeek helped turn him into the player he is today. The AZ Alkmaar and Socceroos midfielder has emerged as one of his country's most talented players in the past year or so and he says it is thanks to the faith the Dutchman showed in him.

"Pim I think was one of the only ones who showed faith in me," Holman said.

"In the time he took over by always selecting me he gave me the confidence and showed a lot of faith in me so I'm definitely grateful for that."

Since kicking off his international career in 2006, Holman has slowly become a first-choice Socceroo, highlighted by his stellar performances at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. He feels that being given more chances has translated to more confidence on the pitch and feeling more at home on the international scene.

"I was coming off the bench a lot in the beginning, when you want to prove yourself a lot more than normal," he added.

"And I think sometimes you want to prove yourself too much that you play yourself sometimes out of the games.

"Now with these (games) I think you can, not relax, but you're more confident because you know you've got a few goals under your belt the last few games and it comes a little bit easier.

"I think I'm doing the exact same things that I've always been doing and working hard at training and maybe just concentrating a lot more on scoring goals instead of passing the balls and stuff like that or giving the assists."
