Former Tottenham boss Terry Venables is dead against Spurs captain Ledley King making England's final World Cup cut.

In his column for The Sun, El Tel argued: "I championed the Tottenham defender for a place in Capello's squad earlier in the season as he helped his club claim fourth spot in the Premier League. But his display in Monday's friendly against Mexico has forced me to rethink his position.

"By his own admission, it was not his best performance for his country.

"And despite his assurances that his well-documented injury problems will not hamper his ability to play three games in a week, I am not convinced we can take the risk of including him when there are also concerns over Rio Ferdinand's fitness."
