In his column for The Sun, Venables wrote: "In a season when the main candidates seem to be taking one step forward and two steps back in their march towards the top-flight crown, the giant that appears to have been kipping in the blue half of Manchester since time began is suddenly roused and stomping towards English football's biggest prize.
"And this renaissance is being orchestrated by one man.
"Not new City boss Roberto Mancini.
"Nor even the club's billionaire benefactor Sheikh Mansour.
"But Carlos Tevez.
"The striker they claim looks like the Incredible Hulk is pulling up trees in a bid to haul City to the highest perch.
"He has always been a popular - and, it has to be said, a successful - figure wherever he has played.
"Tevez is playing like two men and has all the determination of a player who desperately wants to rub his old manager's nose in it.
"Can he do it? Can City win the title?
"Yes, they can."
