Terry Venables says he's willing to help Newcastle UnitedAlan Shearer any way he can.
In his column for The Sun, Venables wrote: "Alan Shearer told the world yesterday he plans to give me a call.
"Well I have a message for him: My phone is always on. I am flattered he wants to talk with me following his appointment as Newcastle manager. And I am honoured he said I inspired his approach to management by the way I stuck by him in Euro 96.
"Though I do not think he would have wanted to phone me had I stuck him on the bench for that memorable summer 13 years ago. But that was never going to happen, even though some people suggested I leave him out of my England team after he went 12 internationals without scoring.
"I knew he would come good and I told him so. He repaid my faith by finishing as the tournament's top scorer with five goals as we came agonisingly close to ending 30 years of hurt."
