Vancouver Whitecaps held by San Jose Earthquakes

The bottom two teams in MLS' Western Conference battled it out for a 1-1 draw on Wednesday night.

Expansion franchise Vancouver Whitecaps managed a very late goal to get a share of the points at home against an unlucky San Jose Earthquakes.

The visitors scored first through usual suspect Chris Wondolowski who produced a neat backheel from a Ryan Johnson cross in the 39th minute after plenty of pressure from the Quakes.

But in the 90th minute, David Chiumentio sent a floating cross into the area from the right side with his left foot which evaded all in the box and bounced past Jon Busch to level the scores.

The draw allowed the 'Caps to stay above San Jose with both sides on just one win in 10 and eight games respectively so far this season.

Vancouver Whitecaps: 1 (David Chiumentio 90') San Jose Earthquakes: 1 (Chris Wondolowski 39') Empire Field, Vancouver, BC - 15,608
