Van Persie relationship with Man Utd boss Van Gaal increasingly strained

The relationship between Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal and Robin van Persie is becoming strained. The London Evening Standard says cracks started to emerge in their relationship during the World Cup, when Van Gaal was still Holland manager and Van Persie one of his key players.

The 31-year-old international striker scored arguably the tournament's best goal for Holland in their opening game against Spain - but then became increasingly bemused to find himself substituted as his team made their way confidently to the semi-finals in Brazil.

That deal has left question marks over where Van Persie fits into the United team, and whether Van Gaal can field a starting line-up that accommodates the Dutch hitman, skipper Wayne Rooney - and Falcao.
