Former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has enjoyed the demise of Paul Scholes at Oldham Athletic.

United legend Scholes lasted just 31 days at Boundary Park before quitting.

The former midfielder was a big critic of Van Gaal during his time at Old Trafford and the Dutchman has noted what occurred at Oldham.

"Paul Scholes was a manager too, yes?" he told BBC Sport. "Fantastic, eh. Fantastic."

Van Gaal added: "The media likes me because I give honest answers. How many people in football give honest answers? I don't lie. Always the truth. OK, maybe my truth. But it is the truth."
