Virgil van Dijk was named co-captain of Southampton on Sunday.
The Dutch centre-back, along with midfielder Steven Davis, replaced Jose Fonte as Saints skipper following his transfer to West Ham United.
With Davis not in the match day squad, van Dijk led the Saints in Sunday's 3-0 win over reigning champions Leicester City at St Mary's but was forced off early in the second half with a foot injury.
But the issue did not stop him from expressing his gratitude at being named the new club captain.
Great win today, 3 points & clean sheet. Hopefully my foot is not to bad, positive mindset! Also proud to be named captain of @SouthamptonFCpic.twitter.com/vFQGhumEf1
