Van der Vaart: Tottenham need to raise their game for Chelsea clash

Rafael van der Vaart admits Tottenham need to improve at Chelsea on Saturday after a run of four games without a win. One point from five games is the not the kind of form Spurs want to be in right now, with the prize of Champions League football awaiting a top four finish.

"It was a hard game (against Stoke), we played a bad game - including myself - but it could be a massive point," the Holland international told Spurs' official website.

"The game against Chelsea is important because if we can win then we'll be stronger in fourth place.

"Everyone knows we need to play better against Chelsea otherwise we won't have a chance, but we will fight until the end."

Van der Vaart's late header against Stoke saw him find the target for the first time since the end of January and he is hoping the floodgates have now been opened.

He said: "I hope so! I want to be important with a goal, or with an assist, but sometimes you have phases in the season where you don't play well or don't feel 100 per cent.

"But I try to fight every game, and when you're not on your best form you've got to fight and try to get a goal to be important to the team.

"We know that we always play well in big games so we're not scared to go to Stamford Bridge. But we will need to be 100 per cent to win there."
