Van der Gouw expects Depay to handle Man Utd move

Former goalkeeper Raimond van der Gouw believes Memphis Depay is mature enough to handle the pressure of playing for Manchester United.

Depay will arrive at the club this summer with a reputation as one of the best young players in the world but despite such hype surrounding his move from PSV Eindhoven, there are chances that the winger could struggle at Old Trafford due to the weight of expectations.

However, former goalkeeper van der Gouw firmly believes Depay has a mature head on his shoulders and will be able to handle the pressure of playing for a club as big as United.

"He will handle moving to United," he told the Manchester Evening News. "But he will find it different.

"You could have negative things written about you in Holland but it wouldn't be on the scale that he'll find in England both with what you do on the pitch and off it.

"If that negativity kicks in then it is a case of how well you cope with it all. Can you keep your focus? How strong are you? Those are the big questions. I get the impression he is the kind of player and character who will deal with it.

"He is going to need time though. It is a big thing moving from your home country to England. Few players can go straight in and settle. Not everyone is prepared to give you time but that is another aspect you have to work through and it will make you better."
