Everton hero Pat Van Den Hauwe has urged his old club to secure Stephen Pienaar to a new contract.

Dutchman Van den Hauwe rates the former Ajax midfielder highly and knows the likes of Manchester City and Bayern Munich are watching the South African.

"He's a top class player," Van Der Hauwe told the Liverpool Echo.

"I hope for his sake and Everton supporters that he does sign to stay for another three years. For him to play for an English club like Everton is great, because he's so good.

"You need players like that and him being over in the UK doing so well, means he has great experience which can only help the South African team."
