Carl Valeri has joined Italian Serie B side Ternana from top flight outfit Sassuolo.
The 29-year old Australian midfielder has departed the Neroverdi to link up with the second division Umbrian club for a fee of around 400,000 ($AUD610,000).
Canberra-born Valeri, who has played for the Socceroos on 50 occasions, arrived at Sassuolo from Grosseto in 2010 and was hoping to finally make his Serie A appearance this season after returning from a long-term leg injury.
But his transfer to Ternana, who are situated just above the Serie B drop zone, means he will have to wait to realise his long-running top flight dream.
