Valencia coach Ruben Baraja: Don't set us goals until market closes

Valencia coach Ruben Baraja says their season targets cannot be set until the market is shut.

Baraja guided Valencia to victory at Sevilla in last week's LaLiga opener.

He said, "The assessment does not have to be done by me, I am the coach of the team. The assessment has to be made by the club, which are the ones that have to set the guidelines with the possibilities that we have in the configuration of the squad, with reasonable objectives.

"It is important. I believe that the objectives are not set by the coaches. They are set by the clubs with the squad that you have and logically we will have to set an objective accordingly to the market possibilities that we have had, of how we have strengthened ourselves and tell people what the goal of the season is, because if not, in the end we are going to be back with something that honestly doesn't help you much for a team like Valencia and that is that we generate higher expectations than we really can.

"So you go all year with a feeling of tremendous frustration. When the transfer period is over, a real assessment will be made of what we can undertake, what our squad is, what our possibilities are and what is the real and reasonable objective of the season and from there we will hold on to each game and each point."
