Valencia coach Gattuso: Why I blasted Mamardashvili for saying 'sorry'

Valencia coach Rino Gattuso has told goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili to forget the word 'sorry'.

Mamardashvili was at fault for a goal conceded in Valencia's draw with Elche on the weekend.

Gattuso said: "Mamardashvili told me I'm sorry and I gave him a blast. Many games he has saved us. Here I don't feel anything. He has the maximum confidence of the coach and the whole team. I told him to get rid of the word 'sorry' from his mind."

Gattuso was also asked about Toni Lato's contract status.

"It's a club problem, it's not my problem. I'm happy that he's always working hard. Nothing changes for me. If he trains like this, the club has to decide. The club knows what I think. I can't talk about renewals. I'm not the sports director.

"The club knows what I think. We have a sports director to talk to him about renewals. If not, I change jobs and leave the bench and become sports director."
