Valencia coach Gattuso hails Ancelotti: He's succeeded across four generations

Valencia coach Rino Gattuso regards himself as self-taught.

Gattuso says pressing from the front was something he has only employed this year.

He said, "The player's life is better. The way I live football, I don't have a life. I have to thank my wife. I don't know how she manages to be with me. It's difficult, I start at 8.30 and go home at 19.

"I started this career from scratch. I knew football, but I wasn't prepared. I have watched games of all categories. In the hour and a half that we are on the field, I feel alive. Now I see football in a totally different way than when I played. When I coached Milan and Naples we didn't press high, now yes we do."

On his relationship with Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti, Gattuso, who played for the Italian at AC Milan, told AS: "When I started to be a coach I called Ancelotti and said 'How do you do it?'.

"For me he is the best coach in the world, he comes from 3-4 generations ago and always has the key to getting into the players' heads. It's amazing how he has always done it with four different generations."
