Valencia coach Gattuso: As a player I stole many balls, now I want my team to keep it

Valencia coach Rino Gattuso admits he's changed his approach since moving from being a player to a manager.

Gattuso is impressing in his first season in charge of VCF.

The Italian said: "I tried to change my attitude, but it was no longer me. Although I don't like it when I see myself on television. You suffer much more on the bench than on the pitch.

"As a player I ran a lot and stole many balls; now I like my team to have the ball. The desire, blood and mentality are the same as when I was playing but the vision is totally different."

On his first months with Valencia, Gattuso said: "I found a lot of professionalism and I am very happy. The first goal I set was to give the team a style of play, which played with a different style last year.

"We started immediately and the change was very radical. I have to thank the players for how they train: I am surprised by the mentality of many young players, they made an incredible leap. We must continue to work, in football as in life we must improve day after day."
