USA brings in ex-Germany, Scotland boss Vogts

US Soccer has announced the appointment of Berti Vogts as the USA national teams Special Advisor.

The 67-year old German, who is currently manager of the Azerbaijan national team, has been appointed by US boss Juergen Klinsmann to act as a specialist until the end of the 2014 World Cup.

"We are absolutely thrilled to have Berti join us as an advisor," said Klinsmann in a statement released by US soccer.

"He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, both as a player and a coach, and he knows what it takes to succeed at the highest level. He was my coach for Germany in the 1990s and we have a great relationship. Through his time as the head coach of Scotland, Nigeria and Azerbaijan, he is obviously very familiar with our opponents in the group stage of the World Cup, and for us this is a huge bonus."

During his extensive coaching career, Vogts has spent time in charge of the German national team, Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen as well as Kuwait, Scotland and Nigeria.
