UK pay-TV broadcaster Premier Sports has agreed to air two free weekly La Liga matches during the upcoming 2020/21 season, with select Friday and Saturday fixtures to be shown live on its FreeSports channel, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/.
The alteration to Premier Sports' three-year broadcast partnership with Spanish soccer's top flight, which was originally signed last year, sees Granada's season opener against Athletic Bilbao on 11th September become the first La Liga match on the free-to-air (FTA) network.
La Liga has also confirmed that Eibar's first two fixtures versus Celta Vigo (12th September) and Villarreal (19th September) will be shown via FreeSports.
The move also sees both Premier Sports and La Liga take advantage of British soccer's relaxed blackout rules, which now allows games to be shown in the UK during the previously banned 3pm Saturday timeslot.
It also expands on La Liga's temporary offer to allow UK customers to watch LaLigaTV for free until 1st October, including access via Premier Sports' digital platforms for existing Sky subscribers.
Free access has also been granted for subscribers to the Premier Player over-the-top (OTT) service, which offered a similar promotion for La Liga matches when's 2019/20 season resumed post-lockdown back in June.
