UEFA executive Christillin: Gabri Veiga going to SPL surprised me

UEFA executive Evelina Christillin believes the Saudi Pro League spending will continue.

However, Christillin insists there are no plans to welcome SPL clubs into the UEFA Champions League in the future.

"The super market of Saudi Arabia has intrigued me, but it is not surprising and above all it is not worrying. Arab clubs in the Champions League? A hypothesis that UEFA does not evaluate at all," said Christillin, who is also involved with Juventus.

"First of all, I don't think they will stop given how they have moved in other sports, starting with golf: they can count on the Pif fund, an almost unlimited portfolio. Ronaldo's purchase didn't impress me that much because years pass for everyone and for him too.

"Rather, 21-year-old Gabri Veiga had an effect on me. One can go to Arabia to end a career, but one can still become a football star in Europe: a question of history and competitions. Money, even if many, struggle to take root without culture. A few years ago China also invested a lot and attracted great players and top coaches to the East, but then the government backed down.

"We are all curious, even in Nyon, to understand how far it will go Saudi Arabia".
