Tranmere boss Mellon hails 'mentality' of Liverpool striker Glatzel after finding scoring form

Tranmere Rovers boss Micky Mellon is delighted with the sudden scoring form of on-loan Liverpool striker Paul Glatzel.

Glatzel started this impressive scoring streak in an EFL Trophy group stage game versus Oldham Athletic earlier this month and has rewarded trust placed in him by Mellon with an equaliser against Bristol Rovers on Saturday afternoon and winner versus Bradford City last night.

Speaking after the game, the Tranmere boss heaped praise on the forward's 'mentality' after biding his time to prove a point.

Mellon said: "All credit to Paul. People speak about development all the time, and I don't think people get it.

"It has taken time for Paul to keep battling and showing the qualities that were needed. He has never come here and moaned about the way that we play and that it's not what he's used to.

"He has tried to find a way of playing with the qualities he has, to make an impact - that is development.

"And the mentality he has shown in order to do that, he has never got his head down, he has just thought 'this is the way that football gets played in this division and I'm going to make sure that I'm good at it'. And he is.

"He is now moving forward really well, he has bridged that massive gap from under-23s football to this. The challenge now for Paul is to find that consistency and keep growing. He is a very clever boy and we're pleased he is moving forward."
