Celta Vigo president Carlos Mourino has launched a new tirade at Denis Suarez.
The pair haven't seen eye-to-eye since the start of last season.
At a media conference today, Mourino said of the former Barcelona and Manchester City midfielder: "He has been running a smear campaign against the club for a year and we have no choice but to go out and clarify these situations. We had a problem with him and with all the players who belonged to his agency, including Iago Aspas. We all looked for a reasonable solution and all the boys responded favorably to stay with Celta.
"Denis's problem comes from that date, in which we feel very betrayed. He is a player who wins a million and sells one of ours to win 40 or 50 thousand euros. It is a betrayal of the club and Celta's youth academy. He maintains the conflict by talking about the situation. His only purpose is to harm Celta."
Mourino says they have offers to sell the midfielder.
"We have sent him four offers from teams that paid him more than Celta, but since Celta benefited because Celta bought or exchanged one player for another, he rejected all of them. There was a team that paid him twelve million euros net and he rejected them because it hurt Celta. There was a team that played Champions and asked him outrageously so that the operation would not be done. Denis wants to force us to let him go free so he can sign for another team for free and earn more money. One of the teams we got for him, his entourage called that team to ask how much more they would pay him if he went free. I am not going to allow it even if that prevents me from having more budget.
"He now says that he is very offended because we have removed him from the team. Is a lie. He is not separated from the team. He has breakfast with the team and works with the team, but when it comes to preparing for a game, he doesn't participate, but he is only the final part. He does more than 70% the same as the others, but he plays the victim, when the victim has been Celta."
In the final part of last season, the fans clearly positioned themselves in favour of Denis and against Mourino in Balaídos. However, the president affirms that he will continue to go to the stadium with his head held high.
“It has gone well for him because he has important social networks and, as he himself says, he has managed to rouse the fans. He tells us that if we want peace we have to work it out with him. I will not allow it. Denis is not going to leave Celta under any circumstances unless Celta agrees with the transfer.
"We will respect your rights and you will continue to earn, but with the pressure you are not going to move us from our position. He is not part of our sports project and the contract does not say that he has to play the games. Many players were left without playing with their teams outside of Spain, the only complaint was that of Denis. There is no chance that he will stay at Celta. A player who has betrayed Celta, I don't want him."
In response, Denis took to those "social networks" to respond to Mourino:
"Today the president has given a press conference about my situation and, since you are always there supporting me, I want to clarify some of his false statements. It's been many months since he threatened me that: 'I'm going to make sure Balaídos whistles for you'. It's time to answer.
“On the 'incident', the president says: 'A club that pays a player a real millionaire and sells one of our players, from the house, to earnn 40,000 or 50,000 euros, really, it does seem like a betrayal of the club. I clarify it in three points:
"1. I have the contract that Celta offered me and that I have fulfilled to the letter and with the love I have had for this club since I was a child. Contract, by the way, whose confidentiality I do respect.
"2. I have never sold a player from Celta or from any other team. I invite you to prove this statement with the relevant documents, as well as the income of the money you are talking about.
"3. Beyond this, it is Celta itself who has recognized that everything is false. You have to know our agreement as the internal regulations collect very serious sanctions (including termination without compensation) for players who act against the interests of the club.
"However, Celta has not only never imposed any sanction on me but has not even started any kind of case against me for that reason. Who lies then?
“The president says about my exit options: 'We have given him four offers sought by us (…) one paid him 12 million euros net in three years'. I clarify: I never received such an offer from Celta. I invite you again to publicly display the document of that offer and my refusal … There is none.
“More about offers. He says: 'Another team that was playing in the Champions League and was swapping players asked him for an awful lot of money (…)'. I clarify: I will not say the name of the club out of respect, but the money problem was not on my part and it was on this team that had to sell due to a salary limit issue. It couldn't undertake any operation, no matter how cheap. To close the issue of offers, of the other two that the president cites: I brought one and there was no agreement anywhere and I have no record of the other.
“About training, Mouriño says: 'At no time is he away from the team. He does more than 75% exactly the same as everyone else'. I clarify: it is a subject that I cannot say more about as I am in Labor Inspection, but the words of the president and the images speak for themselves.
“Finally, he says: 'We want to make it clear that their sole purpose is to harm Celta. He wants to go free to earn even more money'. I clarify: you have heard me offer solutions without any agency involved to the club to fix everything and be able to fulfill my dream, which is none other than to wear the Celta shirt. It still is...
