Tottenham winger Townsend sends warning to Man Utd young gun

Tottenham winger Andros Townsend has provided some words of advice for his national teammate Luke Shaw.

The 20-year-old left back has almost no chance of making it to Euro2016 after suffering a leg break in Manchester United's Champions League clash with PSV Eindhoven last month and Townsend has warned the youngster against going to the tournament as a football pundit.

Townsend speaks from personal experience as he worked as a commentator during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil after missing the tournament due to injury.

"There is no bigger disappointment than missing out through injury and I feel for Luke," Townsend told the Daily Mail.

"He was having a fantastic season and was one of the best English players in the Premier League so it's going to be difficult for him – I won't lie.

"It was harder than I thought for me. Beforehand I thought it would be alright, but once I was there and the tournament was going on it was incredibly difficult to handle.

"Being there as a pundit made it worse, being that close but not being involved.

"But it did give me the drive to push on, seeing the World Cup as close as I could, so that has given me the desire to make sure I am involved when the next tournament comes around.

"He has time on his side, he's only 20 so there will be plenty of other tournaments for him and he should take that positive from a negative situation.

"He's Man United's first-choice left back and I am sure he'll be alright."
