Tottenham signing Erik Lamela was relieved to learn his younger brother had survived a horrific carjacking at home in Argentina.
The Sunday Mirror says Lamela's younger brother Axel was kidnapped by gun-toting carjackers near Buenos Aires in Argentina on Friday - just hours before his home Spurs debut against Norwich.
Tottenham officials confirmed £30million-signing Lamela was made aware of the kidnap and the fact his family were forced to hand over £600 to free Axel.
It is not thought the Lamela family were specifically targeted because of 21-year-old Erik's fame, as such incidents are not uncommon in parts of South America.
