Tottenham are planning a £4 million bid for Real Madrid defender Gabriel Heinze.
The People says the Argentina left-back's current deal run out in June 2010 and, with no extension on offer, Spurs' boss Harry Redknapp is ready to pounce.
He is desperate to find an experienced left-back with Gareth Bale failing to impress.
Heinze, 30, left Manchester United under a cloud as boss Sir Alex Ferguson refused to sell him to rivals Liverpool.
PSV Eindhoven are also in the hunt but Spurs have the advantage of being able to match his £60,000 a week wages.
