Tottenham midfielder Nile John: We're going for FA Youth Cup this season

Tottenham midfielder Nile John says they're serious about winning the FA Youth Cup this season.

Spurs meet AFC Wimbledon later this evening.

John, who has played across Under-18 and Under-23 levels this season and earned his first team debut against Wolfsberger AC at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last month, wants to make sure he and his team-mates approach the game with the right mindset.

“It's very important that we win this game and progress," said the 18-year-old to the club's website.

“The FA Youth Cup is a very prestigious tournament that we'd really love to be a part of going into the latter stages – that's where we're hoping to get to, but AFC Wimbledon will be another good test like Newport was in the last round, so we need to approach it correctly and be consistent.

"Everybody needs to work together as a team and do a job and a half, because it's not going to be an easy game. We're going to find ourselves up against a different style of football as well, so we just need to adapt and adjust to how it will be."

John added: “It's been a long time since we've won the FA Youth Cup and with the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea who have won it in recent years, it would be perfect for us to put Tottenham back on the board as winners of the FA Youth Cup, especially this year, because I think it's something that we're capable of achieving with the squad that we have."
