Tottenham midfielder Maddison happy to be back for victory over Brentford

Tottenham midfielder James Maddison was delighted to be back for their win against Brentford.

The 3-2 triumph sees Spurs return to the top four.

Maddison said: "It was lovely to be back. When you're injured and starved of doing what you love, that just reminded me why I love football so much, just being out there tonight.

"First half was stop-start, the kind of first half Brentford would have wanted, a lot of stoppages and set-pieces. In the second half, we had too much for them. It's never simple and plain sailing here, there's always a lot of goals at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

"I'm a moaner at the best of times and I'm worse when I'm injured. There's a design fault at Spurs, all the physio beds face the pitch with a big glass window. You're getting your treatment and you're watching the lads train every day, it's tough. But I'm through it now, I'm feeling good and strong.

"I feel really positive, we have had a stop-start year with injuries to our XI. It derailed us a bit, with that Chelsea game with injuries and suspensions. But I don't think the gaffer wants to put a ceiling on it, we can do something special. We have 16 games left, we can go on a big run. If you don't believe something special can happen, nothing can happen."

On his clash with Neal Maupay, he added: "I just said to him, he hasn't scored enough goals of his own in the last few years to have his own celebration, so he had to copy mine. Short story, ended well for us."
