Tottenham midfielder Lamela: We DO have to get nastier

Tottenham midfielder Erik Lamela has no problem with manager Jose Mourinho demanding greater aggression from his players.

After their recent scrappy 1-0 victory over Everton, Spurs boss Mourinho claimed he did not want 'nice boys' in his side as they never win things.

However, Lamela is adamant those words have not been on his mind while constantly being blown up for infringements over the last eight games..

Yes, he may lose his rag in the heat of the battle, but, according to the Argentina winger, his high foul count is more down to the officials making wrong calls.

Lamela conceded: “It's the way sometimes I play football. Too many times, it's not even a foul but they are giving fouls.

“I get angry sometimes. But I don't know. It's not something that I'm trying to do - it's just the way I train and how I play."

And discussing Mourinho's call for nasty rather than nice players, Lamela added: “It's a difficult question but the manager is the first person who can see everything. So, if he has something to say, we have to accept it.

“This team is full of people who love to train, love to play and love each other on the pitch. Everyone will try their best for the team."
