Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes believes former coach Juande Ramos' downfall was his lack of English.

The Brazil international said: "As much as he tried to speak English, he could not spend as much time as he wanted learning it. It was not the same thing working with a translator. For me, I had no problem, but for the British group it was complicated.

"I never saw any problem with his approach."

Asked about claims Ramos' scientific diet left the players hungry, Gomes revealed: "I will not mention names, but some players who had a tendency to get fat claim that this diet was imposed on them, but I think this was not right.

"What happened was that those who could not keep their weight down were fined 10 per cent of their salary and it was paid into a kitty."
