Tottenham keeper Gomes feels Spurs need to push harder

Following Sunday's 1-1 draw with London rivals Chelsea, Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes feels his side needs to push harder when they score the first goal in games.

Spurs netted in the 15th minute through Roman Pavlyuchenko but surrendered their lead in the 70th minute to Didier Drogba before Gomes saved a late Drogba penalty to deny the Blues victory.

The Brazilian admitted that Tottenham need to go harder when they are a goal up rather than kicking into gear whenever they find themselves down o the scoreboard.

"It was the right result. We played better in the first half and they played better in the second. We had chances at the end but they played better in the second half," he said.

"I think we need to push a little bit more when we do get the first goal, the way we do when we go behind.

"Sometimes when you score first you drop and I think we need to squeeze a bit more and still press the opposition. That maybe why sometimes we drop points like Sunday.

"But if you look at us and the way we play, then of course we can challenge for the title.

"We concede goals because we attack as well. Last season we defended more than we attacked and this season we have Luka Modric in central midfield. It is difficult but we are still up there and can keep going. We can finish up there.

"All of us know we have come a long way but it is not easy to play against a team like Chelsea.

"We are in a great moment but they are a very experienced side and they made it a difficult game for us. When people say we can win a game like this it shows the players and everyone how good we are. We have to keep going and try to pick up points.

"But of course the other thing is that we need to start getting clean sheets again. I think a team like Manchester United or Chelsea keep a lot of clean sheets but I think we just changed the way we play now.

"We need to time to adapt it and sometimes we need to be more compact as defenders to keep more clean sheets. I think we are in the right way."
