Tottenham signing Brad Friedel admits he could have hung up the gloves this summer.
Friedel considered following Manchester United's Edwin van der Sar into retirement at the end of the season before taking up the challenge offered to him by Harry Redknapp at Spurs.
The former Aston Villa keeper stressed: "It's natural to weigh up your options in my situation. But I feel I have another year playing in me. That will take me up to my 41st birthday.
"There are many keepers at 41 still playing so I'd like to get to that and see how the body is. I don't want to be the oldest keeper in the Premier League but I still want to fulfil and achieve every time I go out on to the pitch.
"I always think that when you decide to leave a place you look forward to a new challenge, not look back and regret anything.
"You might miss things when you decide to retire, but the lure of something new excites me and offers me a new challenge in my career."
