Tottenham are desperate to beat Arsenal for Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen.

The Sunday Mirror says Daniel Levy will fly to Amsterdam to open talks over brining the £10million-rated Ajax defender to White Hart Lane.

Vertonghen declared his high regard for Arsenal after visiting the Emirates for a Champions League game and staying with ­international teammate Thomas Vermaelen.

But the Gunners have still to finalise their deal for the 25-year-old and Spurs have been working away behind the scenes ­trying to set up their own deal.
